My long-promised Distant Outposts space station and colony facility is now launching on Kickstarter! If the Gamer Nation can help me get the word out about this, I'll be deeply appreciative. This is an Orbital Docking Station made up of four huge poster maps, with several new starship designs throughout--and a multi-level colony complex on the back... Thanks, folks! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ma ... er-map-set

Holy Crazed AI, Batman!
I was just thinking that I could use a station map for a Star Frontiers campaign I was going to game master for using game designer veteran James M. Ward's Dark Outpost adventure module.
How did you know?!!

All. Over. This. Kickstarter.
Any plans to preview the "B-Sides" of the map(s)?
Also, for clarity; most of the rewards state "pdfs of all images from this kickstarter" (or something like that). Does that mean we get all 4 quadrants as pdfs as long as the kickstarter funds, even if we can't get the KS up to unlock all 4 quadrants as prints?

Trying to make sure I understand what's being offered before I pledge money to it.
At the base, it's two maps, double-slided, with one side being one half of the station and the other side being the mining/colony, right? So if I were to pledge for two maps, that'd get me the full station, barring the Distant Outposts II stretch goal, right?

DarthGM is correct: it's a map in four parts. Each quarter of the station will have a level of a Mining Colony building on the back. I'm working day and night to get those Side B maps done. It's coming along nicely and I should have at least one interior deck ready to show off by tomorrow morning. The rooftop is done, pending a few changes: Star Wars minis players in laster year's Mystery Map tournament got an early peek at that one. Backers of $10 and up will get all of the new Distant Outposts PDF maps, even if those stretch goals aren't unlocked. Likewise, backers who pledge for the massive vinyl space station will get their reward, even if the standard double-sided posters don't get unlocked by stretch goals. Thanks everyone!

Cool, thanks for the clarifications.
Will the PDF come with files for the map in it's different configurations, or will we have to 'stitch' it together ourselves before printing?

I recall Chris West talking about making that mining colony map on a few past Threat Detected episodes. I am glad to see that it has finally come about.
It is now the time to embed yourself in with some space marines and kick some xenomorph butt!

This looks really nice, but man, I can't help but compare prices to other poster map products out there.
For the price of 1 poster map here, you can get a set of 3 in the D&D line when they sold map packs a couple years ago. Having them as PDF isn't much of an option for me, as I'm on a tight gaming budget as it is with new Star Wars and D&D books coming out, plus my trip to GenCon in a few weeks. So printing them would be expensive, and I'd rather put my gaming money to the books from FFG.
$75 for a large vinyl map? I thought the Gale Force Nine line was expensive...
As much as I'd like to help out and get some of these awesome maps, I just can't do it at this time.

Backed and eagerly sharing to try and hit some stretch goals. Glad we hit the goal and can't wait to see what stretch goals are hit, Mr. West!

Good question. I can include a PDF of the whole station as it was originally designed (it'll be a huge file...), but I can't anticipate every combination that people might want to use it, so to change the layout for your own purposes, you'll have to take the individual maps and go from there.
Darth Baad wrote: "For the price of 1 poster map here, you can get a set of 3 in the D&D line when they sold map packs a couple years ago." WotC prints in volumes I can't beat. In the print industry, the more copies you print at once, the cheaper each one becomes. WotC can expect to sell thousands more in the retail market than any smaller publisher, so they get the best deals.
That said, I stand by the quality of my work and the production value I get from my printer. I strive to make my maps the best in the business and price them fairly.
"$75 for a large vinyl map? I thought the Gale Force Nine line was expensive..." Here I agree with you, to some extent. It should be noted that the pledge level includes domestic shipping--which gets substantial when moving tubs of heavy vinyl around. That said, the vinyl rewards are based on the pricing I got last year for my Numenera map kickstarter rewards, but that was a very different project. Since this project went live, I've found a way to get a better potential price, but A) I'd need to print in larger volumes, and B) Kickstarter won't let you change the pledge level of a reward once someone has selected it.
I'm looking into ways to add more value to the rewards as the project goes forward, though, and will do so whenever possible.
Thanks for the feedback!

A quick update: The price of the 22x34" vinyl poster prints has been reduced to $55. I don't know if that brings them into the buying range of anyone here, but I hope it helps.

Your maps DO look amazing, I will definitely give you that! And a price reduction for the vinyl maps will surely entice many to take a second look, if they haven't already... Unfortunately for me, it's just bad timing as I have to save every penny I can for GenCon. Will you have a booth at GenCon, Chris?
But I do wish you the best of luck, and hope that all of your stretch goals get met!
And, yea, I wasn't thinking about the volume of printing that WotC does, so of course they can make their stuff like that less expensive. I do apologize for my oversight there.
Also, just took a look at your website and saw that you did the maps for the Anvil of Time adventure! That is awesome! As a huge Dragonlance fan, I must say that those were some good maps, despite being the beginning of your career!
