HoloNet Uplink – TIE Brute (Solo Content)

Welcome to the HoloNet Uplink, citizen. This series focuses on Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars Roleplaying Game, with content aimed mostly at the Gamemaster. Threats, adventure seeds, rules supplements, and more are all to come for those who access The HoloNet Uplink.

And so continues the beginning of what I hope is a Solo content deluge. As a known Stormtrooper Specialty Corps fanatic, it was only appropriate that I started with the range troopers. One of my other “go tos” on this blog is starfighter stats, so of course it is now time to tackle the new TIE Brute. Enjoy, and let me know what Solo content you’d like to see by making a comment below.

TIE/rb “Brute” Heavy Starfighter

A heavy variant of the TIE Fighter, the TIE/rb “Brute” was produced in limited numbers during the early days of the Galactic Empire. The TIE Brute sported an array of upgrades including triple-laminate reinforced armor, cannons with a dedicated power capacitor, and an integrated droid brain copilot. These heavy fighters were deployed in small quantities to garrisons through the Empire. Commonly snapped up by aces and squadron leaders, it was not unusual to see a handful of TIE Brutes backed by waves of standard TIE Fighters.

The TIE/rb was one of the first in a long line of rejected concepts for an enhanced TIE Fighter. Like the TIE Advanced and TIE Defender after it, the TIE Brute was an excellent improvement unwelcome in the Imperial Navy’s doctrine of cheap fighters and heavy capital ships. Production was halted well before the outbreak of organized Rebellion, with TIE Brutes recalled from operational squadrons to be decommissioned. Despite this, some TIE Brutes remain in service with far-flung Imperial outposts. Some frontier commanders, preferring the utility of the TIE Brute, have retained the vessel by keeping them off the books. Officially “destroyed beyond salvage,” these TIE Brutes are maintained by cannibalizing parts from other Sienar Fleet Systems crafts. Although this is against Imperial regulation, outposts currently operating TIE Brutes are so far from central command that inspections are seldom, if ever, carried out.
