Last month, the xenobiologist was busy studying the Brezak. (FFGSW and SWSE) This month they turn their scholarly attentions to the Grogu of deadly Star Wars monsters – an underaged rancor.
Yes, the younger, smaller rancors can put up a heck of a fight against other fierce beasts, sentients, and both at once. While they may be cute compared to a full-grown rancor, they are still very deadly. By the time they reach adolescence, rancors are already good fighters, able to at least hold hold their own against similar sized predators. They also have the instinctual dominance drive. This makes them tough opponents, even if not nearly the equals of adult specimens.

Design & Play Notes: Like the brezak, the “baby” rancor is inspired by The Bad Batch episode “Rampage.” Muchi was a charming but dangerous half-grown female rancor, one of several owned by Jabba at various times, and she and Bib Fortuna seemed quite fond of each other. (Doesn’t it warm your heart/s to know Jabba’s major domo was capable of affection?)
The statblock is based both on the official rancor stats from Edge of the Empire – but not simply scaled down – as well as Muchi’s capabilities as seen on TV. The lower Survival and Vigilance ranks, Cunning, and Willpower reflect that these are instinctual only, lacking an older animal’s learning. Next week, I’ll have the Star Wars Saga Edition version of the stats for fans of that classic SWRPG line.
