Fyrnocks are dangerous predators found on large asteroids with breathable atmospheres, and possibly other locations–but the less sunlight, the better. Xenobiologists disagree on whether fyrnocks have a deep-rooted terror of natural light, or if it damages them. Whatever the evolutionary reason, fyrnocks cannot be forced by any means, not even the Force, to enter natural sunlight. Unlike most lifeforms, they are silicone-based, not carbon-based. Fyrnocks live in large packs, which may include a much larger and stronger Mother Fyrnock.
Design and Play Notes: The Star Wars Rebels episodes (“Out of Darkness” and “Gathering Forces”) featuring these predators are among my Season 1 favorites. While these episodes do suggest the possibility that a fyrnock might make an animal companion for a Pathfinder or Hermit, the GM and player will want to have a serious discussion on whether this fits into the campaign.
The Star Wars: The Old Republic video game has a nocturnal riding mount also called a Fyrnock. It is unclear if this is the same species, although Wookieepedia classfies the SWTOR fyrnock as Legends. I have included this variant for SWTOR campaigns. This statblock includes mechanics from Stay on Target.
