The galaxy has existed for billions of years, with civilizations coming and going in the blink of an eye. The current civilized iteration of the galaxy, and its mostly advanced cultures, has existed for over 25,000 years, and even within that time, vast numbers of species have become extinct. Most of these creatures disappeared due to direct interference from the galaxy’s countless space faring races whilst occasionally, natural circumstances have resulted in the elimination of an entire species, which in itself leave many unanswered mysteries to solve. These mysteries are often solved on paper within libraries and classrooms around the galaxy. Some of those however were solved by one intergalactic explorer and scholar who was all too familiar with this type of research, and was one who was not afraid to get his hands dirty, literally, in order to find those answers. That man’s name was Dr Tarn Naglan.
Dr Naglan was a well respected scholar who hailed from the Core World system of Eriadu. Dr Naglan’s career began after graduating college and gaining a Republic Scholarship to attend the prestigious University of Ketari. The University, situated in the Oplovis Sector, was at the time, the penultimate institution of higher learning specializing in xeno-archaeology and xeno-paleontology. It was the latter that intrigued the doctor, having begun his fascination with long lost, dead creatures when he was a child, primarily motivated due to the interest he had with the sheer number of species that had become extinct on his homeworld.
The good doctor graduated at the top of his cohort, and even taught at the university for a time. Eventually his obsession with several races of extinct herbivores which once occupied the plains of the distant world of Mazave in the Dominus Sector, got the better of him. After numerous applications to the Republic Government’s Research Council, a grant was eventually provided, which allowed Dr Naglan to commence his research. The expedition continued through both the Clone Wars and the Fall of the Republic. Due to his obsession, both events failed to curb his enthusiasm for his craft. Even the death of several of the doctor’s close family members during these conflicts appeared to outsiders as more of an inconvenience to him, and a clear sign of the doctor’s obsession.
Funding for Dr Naglan’s expeditions were always costly, and with no further credits to supply his team coming from the Empire, and with the university having gone bankrupt several years earlier, Dr Naglan found himself not only jobless, but at risk of being homeless as well. Fortune, though, would present an alternate choice for Dr Naglan. On the same day that several members of Dr Naglan’s team abandoned the encampment, a Herglic entrepreneur by the name of Hon Momajon arrived at Dr Naglan’s base of operation, located in the deserts of Mazave’s equator. Being one of the galaxy’s most renowned xeno-paleontologists was enough for the Herglic to enlist the doctor’s help. Momajon was also obsessed with finding extinct creatures, and offered to pay for the Doctor’s funding for the next 5 years, but only if he assisted him with a special project.
Overjoyed with enthusiasm, Dr Naglan agreed to Momajon’s proposal, and soon after prepared what staff had remained, including his Twi’lek assistant Las’Ell Altere, and traveled to a distant unnamed world on the edge of the Outer Rim Territories. It was here that Dr Naglan and his team were joined by several other notable mathematicians and scholars who had also been recruited by Momajon. The world that they had journeyed to was inhabited by thousands of long extinct creatures from over five dozen worlds, some he had only dreamed of seeing one day, whilst others plagued his nightmares. Naglan was astounded by what he had seen, but something nagged at his core. Whatever scientific achievement Momajon had discovered or funded was truly an astounding feat of genetic engineering, but what concerned Dr Naglan more than anything was whether its discovery had been tempered with sound judgement.

I think the word I was looking for was “foremost”. Edit please 🙂
*Pen*ultimate institution of higher learning? So it’s the second-best?
