Sadly, Jeremy Bulloch, who created the onscreen presence of Boba Fett, one of the most popular Star Wars characters, passed away on December 17, 2020, of Parkinson’s Disease complications. Ironically, the next day The Mandalorian season 2 finale, “The Rescue,” would see Boba Fett (portrayed by Temuera Morrison) return to the franchise. That episode was later dedicated to Mr. Bulloch. Like many Star Wars actors, Mr. Bulloch was an Honorary Member of both the Rebel Legion and 501st Legion Star Wars costuming clubs. Later he would become a 501st member in his own right, trooping as Boba Fett.
Born in Leicestershire, UK, Mr. Bulloch began acting as a child. His adult roles ranged from Q’s assistant Smithers in Octopussy and For Your Eyes Only (plus a minor role in The Spy Who Loved Me) to Dr. Who episodes to, of course, Boba Fett. He also played two other roles in the Original and Prequel trilogies. In The Empire Strikes Back, he played not only Fett but an Imperial officer, Lt. Sheckil, the one holding Leia as she yells to Luke. In Revenge of the Sith years later, he would portray Alderaanian pilot Colton Jeremoch, who helps Bail, Ob-wan, and Yoda escape Coruscant. Mr. Bulloch is said to have joked about Colton being Boba Fett.
The actor also appeared in other Star Wars related films, including the documentary Elstree 1976. He was in Mark “Luke Skywalker” Hamill’s Comic Book The Movie (2004). He had cameos in two fan Star Wars shorts, available on YouTube, Order of the Sith: Vengeance and Downfall – Order of the Sith. They were fundraisers for Save the Children Fund, with David Prowse and Michael “Admiral Ozzel” Sheard also in the casts.
My condolences, belated, to his family, and my thanks to Mr. Bulloch for being part of a universe I’ve loved since my teens. You will be missed. Godspeed and may the Force be with you.
