The future of the Fantasy Flight Games RPG lines has now been officially announced by the new studio taking over production and development: Edge Studio. This announcement follows low-detail reports of the change released yesterday in the Asmodee keynote at GAMA. There, it was reported that Asmodee announced that the Star Wars, Genesys, and Legend of the Five Rings RPGs would be transitioning to another Asmodee-owned company, Edge Entertainment (which was acquired by Asmodee in 2017, and has been primarily responsible for European foreign-language distribution of the FFG RPGs).
In what they company calls out as a “temporary site” opened today, the newly christened “Edge Studio” formally announced their new ownership and development of the Star Wars, Legend of the Five Rings, and Genesys RPGs – as well as the RPG properties of Zombicide and The End of the World. The announcement clarifies that Asmodee’s intent is to have Edge Studio be the “single” point of RPG development under the Asmodee banner: a dedicated studio solely for the intent of RPG development.
This news comes after a tremendous amount of speculation and conversation following the controversial decision to layoff the RPG Department at Fantasy Flight Games in January of 2020; which left many fans and gamers wondering about the future of the RPG properties. While the site promises more information and detail to come, d20Radio will endeavor to keep our readers and listeners apprised of new information as it arises.
