Threat Dossier: General Hannibal Romilar

“If we persevere, and use our time wisely, we will triumph, and return the galaxy to its original splendor.” – General Hannibal Romilar.

The Rebellion against the Empire is one that has at its heart, thousands of men and women who fight against the oppression of the Galactic Empire. Some take up arms and fight against divisions of Imperial Stormtroopers, while others don starfighter uniforms, climb aboard rickety fighters held together by nothing more than the ingenuity of the engineers who help maintain and repair the crafts, and race at break-neck speeds against the best the Imperial arsenal can throw at them. But there are some who lack the capacity or the desire to fight on the front lines; those who are equipped with the tactical knowledge to best the Empire’s finest at their own game. These are the officers and tacticians of the Alliance, and none are more revered that General Hannibal Romilar of the Fakir Sector Fleet.

At an early age, Hannibal displayed a fascination in military theory and studied diligently for a commission to the Royal Republic Academy. Shortly after graduating from the esteemed University of Hullom in political science, Hannibal received a scholarship which allowed him to fulfill his dream to attend the Academy, and was later hand picked by the then Supreme Chancellor Vallorum to be trained as an officer. Whilst at the Academy, he excelled in everything that he did, and still holds the record for being one of the youngest officer graduates. Hannibal, as expected, rose through the ranks with ease and soon after became a well respected and able strategist, with his skills coming to the forefront during the Clone Wars. Many now famous people served under Romilar’s commands, including Crix Madine and Antonio Motti. By the end of the Clone Wars, Romilar had reached the rank of Colonel, and was disheartened when the Jedi turned against the Republic they swore to protect.

Soon after, Romilar was promoted within the ranks of the new Galactic Empire, and it quickly became apparent to him that major corruption had set into the roots of the Republic, which had allowed Palpatine to seize control. Determined to oppose such degradation, he retired from the Military Service soon after, and with the help of his friend, Bail Organa, campaigned for the restoration of the old proven values. Hannibal was successful in his quest, and was elected to become a Senator within the Imperial Senate of his home world of Chentow, a system in the Fakir Sector, an area of space within the galaxy’s Bakchou arm.

During his time in office, he attempted to restore the ways of the Old Republic, but soon discovered the government was eroding with the now Emperor claiming more and more powers. This was quickly leading the galaxy to open civil war. Over the years Hannibal became more and more critical and vocal of the methods used by Palpatine as corruption still flourished and Palpatine’s demands for greater autonomy grew, as did his power. Threats were eventually made, and Hannibal was forced to flee Coruscant with his wife and young son, Bakki, where he returned to his home world and resigned his position in the Senate.

Some time passed, and Hannibal’s son soon grew up, and begun pursuing his own dreams of being a starfighter pilot. The Imperial Academy refused his application, being so bold as to inform the young man that his allegiance with his father was the primary reason for his rejection. Hannibal could see his son’s despair, and with the connections he had built up over the years, made contact with a group of roughnecks, named appropriately, the Reekeene Roughnecks. The group soon took Bakki under their wing and trained him as a starfighter pilot. Hannibal kept in contact with the Roughnecks and vowed that he would repay them for their kindness to his son.

Several years later, Hannibal was approached by Senator Bail Organa and asked if he would help in the fight against the Empire. Hannibal agreed to Organa’s request, quickly rising in the ranks to take a position of General within the Rebel Alliance. Due to his expertise in the Fakir Sector, his knowledge of the politics which the Empire operated under, and his skill as a formidable tactician, Hannibal was sent to the Fakir Sector Force as Chief of Staff and Military Commander, a command which would see him oversee the Roughnecks, and of course his son. Finally, Hannibal realised that the debt to the Roughnecks would be paid. Initially, Mon Mothma, leader of the Rebel Alliance, had requested Romilar to join the Council of the Alliance Against the Empire, but Hannibal insisted that he shouldn’t be nominated, instead opting for a position with the Roughnecks, “nearer the action”. In reality however, Hannibal missed his son.

Hannibal is a tall, commanding figure and a natural leader. His aging appearance is not to be dismissed as a weakness, but a sign that he is brimming with experience, and filled with a cunning rarely seen on the battlefield. Hannibal is a sever threat to the Galactic Empire, and the Empire will stop at nothing, to see him, and his forces eliminated.
